Since January 2025, Clavis School has been established within Anahita Beau Champ, bringing with it a deeply human and forward-looking approach to education. Located at the heart of the estate, this private school follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) and caters to children aged 3 to 11.
We spoke with Nadine de Marasse Enouf, Acting Head of School, at the close of their very first term on campus. She shares with us the promising beginnings of Clavis Beau Champ, the educational principles guiding her team, and the development plans for the months ahead.
Are you satisfied with this first school term on the Beau Champ campus?
We, along with our students, parents, and staff, have had an amazing first term at Clavis Beau Champ. Although we had very little time to set up between receiving the keys and opening our doors on the 8th of January 2025, our dedicated team worked tirelessly to create a warm and welcoming environment for our students.
It’s been a rewarding start, filled with positive energy, strong community spirit, and a real sense of pride in what we’ve already achieved. It is not an easy journey, and I call it a journey deliberately, because it is one of constant movement. We continue to grow, adjust, innovate, evaluate, and adapt to the opportunities and challenges that come our way.
We have strived to offer the best possible holistic IB PYP learning experience for our students. With our small class sizes, the depth of learning and the personal attention we’ve been able to provide is truly commendable. Not only have our students grown physically over the past term, but their knowledge, confidence, and life skills have also blossomed in meaningful ways.
One of the most heartening aspects has been how seamlessly new students have integrated into our community as the term progressed. Each new child was welcomed with genuine enthusiasm by their classmates, and the ease with which they settled in speaks volumes about the kind and inclusive culture we are nurturing on campus.
How many classes do you expect to open next academic year, and for which age groups?
The IB Primary Years Programme is designed for students aged 3 to 11 years old. At present, we offer classes for Pre-Reception (ages 3–4), Reception (ages 4–5), and Year 1 (ages 5–6). With our current cohort naturally moving up a year level, we will be opening a Year 2 class (ages 6–7) in January 2026.
Our approach to growth is both organic and strategic. We aim to expand in a way that preserves the quality and attention each child receives. A growing number of families have already expressed interest in joining for various year levels in 2026, which is a positive indicator of the trust and excitement building around Clavis Beau Champ.
To support prospective families in making an informed decision, we are planning an Open Day during the first week of September. This will be an opportunity for families to meet the team, experience the school in action, and get a true sense of the learning environment in which our students grow.
We look forward to welcoming visitors and sharing the unique spirit of our campus.
Which regions of Mauritius do the school’s pupils mainly come from?
Most of our students currently come from the surrounding regions, particularly Trou d’Eau Douce, Flacq, Bel Air Rivière Sèche, Providence, Belle Mare, and Anahita. These families value proximity to school, especially for younger children, and prefer to minimise long commutes, which is entirely understandable.
That said, our doors are open to students from all parts of the island. As our reputation grows and as the school continues to develop, we expect our catchment to broaden as well. Some families consider making longer commutes to be part of our community because they value the unique educational approach we offer.
Could you remind us of the type of education your school provides?
Our school follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), a globally recognised framework that fosters a dynamic, student-centred, and inquiry-based approach to learning. The programme nurtures curiosity, encourages deep thinking, and supports children in making meaningful connections between what they learn and the world around them.
Central to the PYP is the belief in student agency, children are not passive recipients of knowledge but active participants in their learning journey. They are encouraged to ask questions, pursue personal interests, reflect on their growth, and set goals that are meaningful to them.
We aim to develop independent learners who are confident, principled, and empathetic. Our students learn to collaborate, solve problems, and communicate effectively, equipping them with the lifelong skills needed to thrive in a changing world. The PYP also places strong emphasis on international-mindedness and intercultural understanding, preparing children to be thoughtful global citizens.
At the heart of our approach is a deep respect for children as capable, curious, and competent individuals. We believe that every child has the potential to lead their own learning journey, and it is our role to guide, support, and inspire them along the way.
