Every year, Anahita Golf Club is recognised as one of the most beautiful courses in the Indian Ocean according to avid golfers who come to Mauritius to make the most of this unique golfing experience. In fact, it is one of the few course of the island located on the edge of the lagoon, thus offering breath-taking panoramas from certain holes. Its architect, the famous Big Easy, aka Ernie Els states “The Anahita course has a wonderful natural setting. The spectacular rocky outcrops, majestic trees and views of the mountains and Indian Ocean are breathtaking…”. We take you on a guided tour of its most beautiful holes, where you shall create everlasting memories!
Hole 4: Ocean Drive
The three first holes are great appetizers prior to the magical experience awaiting from the tee of hole n°4. At the edge of the fairway, Mauritius’ largest lagoon with inviting turquoise hues expands toward the horizon – an exquisite view making up for this hole’s difficulty as a wind facing 500m long par 5!
Although the large fairway seems easy to tackle at first glance, underestimating your focus will certainly come at a price…A good advice is to play safe to be able to putt for birdie on the stunning seafront green which seems to float on water. A postcard view for most golfers who enjoy pausing for a few seconds to take in the dreamy panorama before heading to the next hole.
Hole 10: Coconut Grove
This hole is aptly named, being bordered by coconut trees from the tee to the green – a tropical atmosphere on this rather short par 4, whose elevated green can be tricky to reach. The recommended approach is to aim for the fairway first using either a fairway wood or a hybrid from the tee. You may then comfortably hit the green with a relatively short second shot and par the hole with two more strokes afterwards if you don’t play to aggressively!
Hole 17: Turquoise Lagoon
Hole n°17 is certainly among the most beautiful ones in the Indian Ocean. Picture yourself facing the lagoon, with the Île aux Cerfs on your left and coconut trees on your right. A paradisiac scenery!
This 144m long hole par 3 is not that easy to reach as it faces the wind most of the time. Keeping the ball low or using an extra club is key to reaching the green for a chance for birdie! However, regardless of your score, be sure to move onto your final hole with beautiful memories…
Hole 18: Sugar Estate Ruins
This last hole is the perfect end to the Anahita golfing experience: a par 5 which can be reached in 2 given the wind is favourable but be wary of the seemingly and often deceptive ease of this 500m long fairway which doglegs to the right. Do not stick too close to the ruins on the right on your first shot for a chance to hit the green in regulation.
For your second shot, right-handers will be facing the mountains while left-handers face the lagoon. The trick is to avoid the bunkers protecting the long green right by the clubhouse’s restaurant to end your round in style similarly to the pros who have played our course! Indeed, this green has witnessed the victories of South Korean Wang Jeung-Un and American Kurt Kitayama in the 2016 and 2018 editions of the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open.
