There are places where nature is simply part of the scenery. At Anahita Beau Champ, it is a project in its own right, a vision brought to life through Les Jardins de Beau Champ.
More than just a green space, the Gardens are designed as a living agricultural park, where crops, fruit trees, natural areas and spaces for discovery come together harmoniously to create an environment that is productive, educational and accessible to all.
The vision for Anahita Beau Champ is built around a strong principle: integrating agricultural production into everyday life.
Through Les Jardins de Beau Champ, the aim is to create a place where nature is not simply part of the landscape, but an essential component of the Smart City’s identity. Nurseries, vegetable crops, fruit trees and landscaped areas come together to create an ecosystem where agriculture and living spaces evolve side by side. At its heart is a 5-hectare farm, currently under development.
This project offers a new way of thinking about urban planning: a city capable of embracing nature, championing local production and fostering a more direct connection between residents and their environment.
Behind Les Jardins de Beau Champ is Junior Contato, a passionate Mauritian agronomist who has been leading the project from the outset, making it his first major project within the Alteo Group. For Junior, agriculture goes far beyond simply producing crops. It represents a commitment to the land and a responsibility for the future.
“Agriculture is not just about producing fruit and vegetables; it is a commitment to our environment and a responsibility towards future generations,” explains the Farm Productive Landscape Manager.
Les Jardins de Beau Champ are rooted in a regenerative agriculture approach, with the ambition of developing a farming system that respects and strengthens natural balances. This approach is based on a simple idea: working with nature rather than against it. It draws in particular on the principles of permaculture, which mimic natural ecosystems to create self-sustaining crops, and agroforestry, which combines trees, shrubs and crops to enrich the soil and enhance biodiversity. The project also explores a circular economy approach, seeking to minimise waste and prioritise the reuse of resources at every stage.
When Les Jardins de Beau Champ open their doors, they will offer much more than a simple walk through a landscaped space. Junior Contato’s ambition is to create a vibrant place where everyone can discover the different facets of agriculture, observe production cycles and gain a better understanding of the essential role nature plays in our daily lives. Residents, visitors and the local community will be able to enjoy a space designed for learning, exploring and reconnecting with the land.
Beyond its agricultural dimension, Les Jardins de Beau Champ embody a new vision of what a place to live can be, where nature plays a central role in quality of life, and where production, biodiversity and green spaces come together to create a more connected, sustainable and human environment.
Over the coming years, Les Jardins de Beau Champ are set to become an interactive park showcasing a wide variety of plants, fruit trees and nature-based experiences. A place where people can come not only to enjoy a stroll, but also to discover, learn and understand the essential connection between people and their environment.
